Who Are We?

The mission of Humanitarian Affairs is to empower young people and inspire youth who are passionate about positive social change. We aim to equip young emerging leaders with the right skills and tools to spark a generation of dynamic individuals paving the way for social change.

Humanitarian Affairs is affiliated to United Nations Global Compact, World Association of Non-Governmental Organization, International Association for Voluntary Efforts and the World Alliance for Citizens Participation. 

The 2020 Peace Summit

Humanitarian Affairs Asia is organising the 2nd Peace Summit of Emerging Leaders. The summit aims to gather young leaders from different parts of the world to give them a new perspective and a broader understanding on peace building.

The summit features keynote speakers, networking sessions and interactive workshops to prepare and empower young leaders to be a champion of peace.

The summit aims to:

  • Encourage delegates to creatively think about practical ways to affect positive change within their communities through social projects.
  • Promote peace and non-violence as a form of effective diplomacy among emerging global leaders.
  • Encourage delegates to think about social issues that the global community faces today, and to apply critical thinking skills on solutions to these challenges.
  • Provide access to unique educational opportunities in which delegates can learn knowledge in peacebuilding.

Pre-requisites for delegates:

  • Applicants should be between the ages of 17-35 years old.
  • They should be passionate about social change, global issues and current affairs.
  • A self-initiated 1-year opportunity to promote peace as a Humanitarian Affairs Peace Ambassador.

Interested students could write in to us for ideas on self-funding to support their participation at the summit. The 2020 Peace Summit of Emerging Leaders is at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand from February 5 to 7, 2020.

Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Fund - Postgraduate Scholarship: 2019/2020 Academic Year

The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi fund (GSNF) will offer a limited number of partial scholarships tenable at the University of Nairobi, for Masters Programmes during the 2019/2020 academic year.
 
Interested candidates are invited to apply/re-apply for the scholarship through our online application portal (https://gandhi.uonbi.ac.ke) from Monday July 29, 2019. A non-refundable application fees of Kenya Shillings Two Thousand Only (KShs. 2,000.00) will be charged to be paid through MPESA services.
 
The MPESA payment details are: -

system for every applicant

  • Fourth year students (K.C.S.E. 2012) in C.A.V.S., C.A.E., C.B.P.S., School of Education, B.Sc. (Biochemistry) and B.Sc. (Medical Lab. Tech.).
  • Second years (K.C.S.E. 2014) in C.H.S.S.
  • Second year and third year students in the School of Education to commence their second semester.

  • Fourth year students in College of Health Sciences (except B.Sc. Biochem & Medical Lab. Tech.)
 

Varsity management inspects construction of Kisumu Campus

Members of the University of Nairobi’s Council on November 12, 2016, were at the Kisumu Campus on an inspection mission of the progress of the construction of the Complex.

The construction works of the library, computer lab and the lecture theatres is on course. While giving the progress report, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, assured the members of council that the Kisumu Campus Complex will be ready for inspection in two weeks time. In his remarks, Prof. Mbithi lauded the all those who have participated in making sure that the construction of complex progress is realized as per the Commission for University Education (CUE) requirements. Further, he gave a vivid explanation of the upcoming complex and the intentions to expand the Campus.

UoN’s Rugby, Volleyball and Basketball Teams Excel in Performance

The University of Nairobi has seen its sporting teams post excellent performances on recent tournaments. The core teams, rugby, Mean Machine, Basketball men, Terror, Basketball women, Dynamites and Volleyball men and women have all seen action and given a good account of themselves

The University Rugby team, Mean machine, scooped the overall prize of ksh. 100,000 and a medal for each player in the just concluded Maasai 7’s at Kiserian.

Mean Machine participated in the Maasai 7s rugby series organized by the Kenya Rugby Football Union (KRFU) at Kiserian on the 24th-25th July, 2016.  Over fifteen (15) clubs took part in the event on both days. The finalist teams were Mean Machine and Harlequins rugby club.

At the same time, the Men and the women volleyball teams were awarded the overall trophy and 2nd best Overall in the University category respectively. The Volleyball tournament took place in Homabay on the 23rd-24th July, 2016.

Rattansi Trust Donates Ksh 12 Million To Universities

University of Nairobi’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha, receives a cheque worth Ksh 2.1 million from Mrs. Vijoo Rattansi towards supporting needy students in the University. Over Ksh 12.6 Million was donated by the Rattansi Trust to support needy students in higher institutions.The Rattansi Education Trust has donated Ksh.12.6 million to support needy students in institutions of higher learning.  The donation was made by Dr. Vijoo Rattansi in a function held at the University of Nairobi and attended by representatives of various institutions of higher learning.

On your right: University of Nairobi’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha, receives a cheque worth Ksh 2.1 million from Mrs. Vijoo Rattansi towards supporting needy students in the University. Over Ksh 12.6 Million was donated by the Rattansi Trust to support needy students in higher institution.

While handing over the cheque to the institutions, Mrs. Rattansi said that the donation was meant to assist needy students to meet their college fees.  The University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha paid tribute to the Rattansi Educational Trust for supporting poor students to access higher education.  He challenged other affluent members of society to emulate Rattansi’s example and assist in supporting education in the country.
